With an installed capacity of up to 976.5 MW, the offshore wind farm will be the largest of its kind within the German Baltic Sea. Once fully operational, the offshore wind farm is expected to generate clean electricity for approx. one million households, significantly contributing to decarbonisation, energy security and the expansion of offshore wind energy in Germany.
Developed by Skyborn Renewables, the project stands for a modern, scalable approach to offshore wind energy development, covering the full value chain from project development and financing to execution and long-term operations. As a blueprint project, it demonstrates how large-scale sustainable infrastructure can be delivered efficiently while meeting the highest standards of environmental responsibility and stakeholder integration.
Beyond renewable energy generation, the project contributes to regional development, supporting local businesses and companies as well as long-term employment in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, whilst ensuring responsible and sustainable integration into the Baltic Sea ecosystem.

The Gennaker offshore wind farm has been designed based on applying proven offshore wind technology scaled for the Baltic Sea. These specifications outline the project's capacity and grid integration.
63 wind turbine generators of the 15 MW class, with a rotor diameter of 236m, installed on monopiles with transition pieces.
Up to 976.5 MW of clean electricity, with an annual generation of approx. 3.8 TWh.
Connected to the German grid via 3 x 220 kV export cables and 2 offshore substations, operated by 50Hertz.
Construction and operating permit obtained in December 2025; planned execution phase from July 2026 to November 2028; planned completion in December 2028; expected lifetime approx. 35 years.

The Gennaker offshore wind farm is located in the German Baltic Sea, approximately 15 km north of the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula, within the 12-nautical-mile zone of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The project area surrounds the existing offshore wind farm EnBW Baltic 1 and incorporates sections of established submarine cable routes, enabling efficient integration into the regional energy infrastructure.
The site lies within a designated priority area for offshore wind energy as defined in the Spatial Planning Programme (LEP MV 2016). This ensures full alignment with regional planning objectives and confirms its suitability for large-scale renewable energy development.
Benefiting from strong and stable wind conditions, the site offers excellent potential for clean electricity generation. At the same time, its offshore position at a suitable distance from the coast minimises visual impact and supports balanced integration into the marine environment.
With its strategic position in the Baltic Sea, the project plays a key role in strengthening regional renewable energy supply while supporting Germany’s energy transition goals.
The Gennaker offshore wind farm is connected to the German transmission grid via dedicated offshore infrastructure provided by the transmission system operator 50Hertz. This includes two jointly owned offshore substations and an export cable system that transmits the generated clean electricity safely and efficiently to the onshore grid.
